Born and raised in New York, Maxine S. Charles first acquired a taste for genre fiction from watching princess movies and reading The Chronicles of Narnia while her mother braided her hair. She holds degrees in creative writing and women’s and gender studies from Bucknell University, where she studied prose fiction and film. In Bath, England, she studied playwriting and fantasy literature.

As a publishing professional, she is the acquiring editor of acclaimed novels by Yume Kitasei (The Deep Sky, The Stardust Grail, Saltcrop, and Envoy) and Dhonielle Clayton (Conjure the Bones). She has supported a wide gamut of authors at the height of the science fiction, fantasy, and suspense genres. She is possibly the world’s biggest fan of Battlestar Galactica and Succession. Riddlers of the Thorn Wood is her debut novel, and she continues her next projects while she ought to be looking at spreadsheets.
